Cavour became an important figure in Piedmont-Sardinia as he was respected for his economic refrorms such as free trade, which improved ties with France but also led to economic development. Cavour managed to create a united politcal enviroment in Piedmont after the created a union between the centre-left and the Centre-right parties.
