As established by later events in the DC timeline, the DC Universe was created by the Super Celestial known as Perpetua, the Mother of All Creation. Perpetua hailed from a species known as The Hands, a race of omnipotent beings who dwelled in the Greater Omniverse, and whose sole purpose was to create entire Multiverses, and then judge which ones were worthy of existing based on the merits of each one's inhabitants. During the early existence of the newly created DC Omniverse, Perpetua created three sons to carry out her will: Mar Novu, the Over-Monitor, who watched over the Multiverse comprised of Positive Matter and made sure it was stable; Mobius, the Anti-Monitor who dwelled in the Antimatter Universe and whose task was to prevent the Light of Creation at the center the Omniverse reach the Greater Omniverse and disturb Perpetua's fellow Hands, thus incurring their wrath; Alpheus, the World Forger, was sent to work in the Dark Matter Universe, where he would create entire universes, those of which he deemed worthy would be sent up to the Positive Matter Multiverse, while those he did not deem worthy would be destroyed by his pet dragon Barbatos. The three brothers worked in tandem with one another in order to build the perfect Omniverse for their mother Perpetua, and subsequently gain the approval of her fellow Hands. However, later events would soon lead to the removal of Perpetua as the ruler of the DC Multiverse, as well as her banishment beyond space and time, resulting in a power vacuum that two of the three brothers fought to fill.
