After a failed crusade against her by the Justice League of Prime-Earth, Perpetua, the creator of the DC Multiverse, takes over Prime Earth and begins to destroy the neighboring worlds around it so that she can remake the universe in her own image, in an attempt to avoid the wrath of The Hands, Perpetua's omnipotent species who create Multiverses and then judge which ones are worthy of existing. Opposing her is a rebellion of the last heroes of Earth led by Wonder Woman wielding a new weapon called the Chainsaw of Truth, Batman harnessing the power of the Black Lantern, Superman infected with the Anti-Life Virus, and Wally West imbued with the power of Dr. Manhattan. However, Perpetua is overthrown by the Darkest Knight, her right-hand man and formerly the Batman Who Laughs, until he transplants his brain into a variant of Bruce Wayne who had the powers of Dr. Manhattan. The Darkest Knight seeks to destroy The Hands rather than appease them, and is only able to be stopped by Wonder Woman of Prime Earth, who absorbs Anti-Crisis energy from the World Forge and uses it to eventually smite the Darkest Knight after a battle across all of creation, earning her favor with The Hands, who, having just arrived, judge the entirety of the DC Multiverse on the character of Diana Prince, Wonder Woman. The Hands ultimately rule that the DC Multiverse is worthy of retaining its existence, and on top of that, They decide to remake the Infinite Multiverse for the first time since before Crisis on Infinite Earths, as a sign of gratitude towards Diana for saving Their lives from the threat of the Darkest Knight. They also allow Diana to ascend with them to Their higher plane of existence for a short while, before she eventually decides to return to her home of Prime Earth.
