28 jul 64 ano - 1 Timothy & Titus
Descrição:
Paul wrote his first letter to Timothy from Macedonia during his fourth mission trip. He writes to encourage and give counsel to the young Timothy who has been sent to minister in the city of Ephesus (see 1 Timothy 1:3). He reminds Timothy to beware of false teachers like Hymenaeus and Alexader (who taught a form of antinomianism) and teach the truth (see 1 Timothy 4). Paul also gives strict details for the office of eldership in the Ephesian church: they must be men who conduct themselves in a manner worthy of respect, avoiding overindulgence in wine and managing their affairs well. He also provides additional instruction regarding Timothy's frequent illnesses, telling him to "stop drinking only water, and use a little wine" (1 Timothy 5:23).
Paul also wrote a letter to Titus while in Nicopolis during his fourth mission trip (see Titus 3:12). Recall that Paul had left Titus on Crete to establish elders in the churches there. He now writes to instruct Titus regarding the prerequisites for eldership, as well as explaining their responsibilities. Paul also tells Titus to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos who are on there way to Crete (see Titus 3:13), and to inform him that either Tychicus (from Colossae or Ephesus) or Artemas (from Lystra) will come to Crete so that Titus can come visit Paul in Nicopolis during the winter months.
