Martin Luther King Jr is a very recognizable name. He was a black rights activist, a very good one at that. He believed in peaceful protesting which mainly included marches and speeches. This is arguably one of the greatest speeches ever given. In this speech he wanted people to understand that everyone should be treated equally, despite their skin color. Martin Luther King Jr gave his speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. More than 250,000 people were there listening. His speech was 16 minutes long, although he only planned it to be four. His speech was part of the March on Washington. Thousands of people were a part of the March on Washington, trying to gain equal rights, get fully integrated schools, and a higher minimum wage. The march worked and the JFK administration was able to have a strong civil rights bill for Congress. The I Have a Dream Speech is known across the US today because it was so powerful and moving. Martin Luther King Jr said I Have a Dream eight times throughout his speech making it the I Have a Dream Speech.
