The Battle of Athens was an American Civil War skirmish that took place in northeast Missouri. The war was fought between the two leading city-states in ancient Greece, Athens, and Sparta. The whole reason for the war was Athenian control of the Delian League. The Delian League is a military alliance against any enemies that might threaten Ionian Greeks.
The battle of Athens, Tennessee is a true story. Some people think that it is a fake story. The Spartan general Lysander has the walls of Athens demolished. Since the Civil War, political offices in McMinn County had gone to the Republicans, but in the 1930s Tennessee began to fall under the control of Democratic bosses. McMinn County Court directed the county to purchase voting machines. During the war, two servicemen on leave were shot and killed by Cantrell supporters. This was another small battle that had happened. Sparta beat Athens. 3,000 battle-hardened veterans returned.
