Woodrow Wilson was elected as President in 1912 while only serving two years as Jew Jersey's governor. Taft became the first President to actively campaign on his own behalf while in office, but it soon became clear that the real contest was between Wilson and Roosevelt. While campaigning Roosevelt was shot. Luckily a stack of thick papers in his breast pocket helped to stop the bullet just enough so that he would live. While this was going on Taft and Wilson stopped their campaigns. On election day Wilson got 2 million more votes than Roosevelt, and over 3 million from Taft. He was the second Democrat to have been elected since the Civil War. The real victory was the electoral votes in which Wilson got 435 Roosevelt got 88, and Taft only 8. The people involved with this election was Roosevelt, Taft, and Woodrow Wilson. This was an important election because it marked the end of Republican dominance in the White House, and it marked the beginning of the Baby Boomers. He is also so important because he was the decision to enter WWI
