In order to discuss matters pertaining to the Cold War, President John F. Kennedy and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev met in Vienna, Austria, in 1961. Although there were no significant agreements reached at the summit's conclusion, it did pave the way for further talks between the two superpowers.
