A Nuclear Bomb
On Hiroshima
Descrição:
Germany had surrendered, ending WWII in Europe but Japan was refusing to surrender, and with the war waging on long between the U.S. and Japan, the U.S. knew the only way to end the war was to take the Japanese home islands. U.S. intelligence picked up that more than 560,000 Japanese soldiers were lining up and ready to defend mainland Japan in case of an Allied attack. The U.S. intelligence also picked up that if any Allied landings the Japanese would execute all U.S. POWs. The Japanese knew they couldn’t win the war but they wanted the U.S. casualties to go up. Because of this in the summer of 1945 Harry S. Truman was met with the hard decision to keep the war going and as a result inflict more U.S. casualties, or Launch a nuclear bomb killing thousands of Japanese but hopefully ending the war. Harry S. Truman made the decision to nuke Japan with one of the two available U.S. atomic bombs. On August 6, 1945, the U.S. plane Enola Gay dropped the first-ever Nuclear bomb on Hiroshima, Japan.
