- The Arawak exaggerated the truth about gold in other places because they wanted the Spanish to leave
- Then in 1495 they rebelled because of the cruel behavior of the Europeans (forced labor, sexual assaults, etc.). This led to the death of thousands of Native Americans. Native peoples were also sent to Spain to work as slaves.
