14 abr 1865 ano - President Lincoln Was Shot At Ford's Theatre
Descrição:
On April 14, 1865, 16th President and abolitionist Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. This was only five days after Lee’s surrender. To celebrate this victory, Abraham Lincoln went to Ford’s Theatre with his wife, which was not an unusual activity for the president. This trip to see the play Our American Cousin was different, however. The drunken Confederate supporter and actor John Wilkes Boothe snuck into the theatre. He crept his way into the balcony where Lincoln was sitting. In the middle of the play, while people were laughing and clapping at a joke, Abraham Lincoln was shot. Booth jumped out of the balcony despite the gunshot being inaudible. Booth broke his leg during this leap but still was able to escape the theatre. He was killed by farmers in Virginia 12 days later. Lincoln was moved across the street into the Peterson Boarding House, where he died 9 hours later at 7:22 a.m. on Aprill 15th, 1865.
