James II was seen as a loose cannon and a bit radical but in the wrong ways he stated his Catholic religion publicly and his religious standpoint has been known since 1669 but in 1673 when he refused to take part in the test act and therefore did not recognize the Anglican English church as being his soul religion it struck danger into parliament officials Minds.

James was three years younger than Charles parliament was thinking of the best case scenario where if Charles and James died the throne could be passed onto Mary and Anne James's daughters but this was not enough for James he wanted to hold his name and his bloodline to the crown

so in 1673, James marry they 15-year-old Mary of Modera ( an Italian princess) so a Succession may be established this line would also be Catholic unlike James's daughters who were Puritan and had been brought up that way so James tried to have a male offspring with his new wife and eventually, it happened James had a son
