1 ago 1971 ano - ASU: Chicano Element in Education: 1971

Descrição:

Mexican-American students in Arizona advocated for the development of a Chicano studies program dedicated to Mexican American history, but the College of Liberal Arts and Education failed to cooperate. The students claimed that the college refused to hire Chicano professors and include Chicano classes in their curriculum but ASU argued that an American studies program, which included sections on Mex-American, African American, and Native American studies, was considered and would allow students to obtain a minor in Chicano studies. However, the proposal was inadequate with the university agreeing to have an American studies program with a Chicano element. The long-term goal was still to establish a Chicano studies program leading to an independent Chicano department.
