Grandfather received amnesty from the Regan administration. When he received residency, he began moving back and forth between the United States and Mexico. He would be working in the United States for a few months before returning to Mexico. A few years after receiving residency, he gained citizenship and tried to sponsor my mother and her siblings, so they could come into the United States legally.
