29 jul 1986 ano - Iran-Contra Affair

Descrição:

The Iran-Contra Affair was an event that took place without the knowledge of the President. This was an act from the President's Security Adviser when he tried to sell arms and weapons to Iran as he tried to influence them in order to free Americans in Lebanon. The conflict began when people realized it and saw that the U.S had a trade embargo on Iran in which they had proposed. Also, through the selling of the arms, Congress had also measured how much they would loan to the Contras in Nicaragua. The Contras were a non-communist group in Nicaragua. After the findings of these situations, many hearings began to take place which made many officials resign. Reagan claimed that he had no knowledge of this stuff around his administration. Reagan would stay popular until the end of his second term. Americans would see him as a savior as he helped the economy and helped weaken the Soviet Union.
