This law meets with resistance from the Old Order Amish, who don't believe in schooling after the eighth grade. They
believe children only need basic scholastic knowledge, reading, writing, and math, and should learn their values and morals at home. Several Amish parents keep their older children out of school, prompting arrests, fines and jail sentences.
