"He stepped down and vanished . There was a blinding flash of light, and the guests all blinked. When they opened their eyes Bilbo was nowhere to be seen."

Bilbo celebrated his 111th birthday and Frodo's coming of age. They celebrated it and then Bilbo stood up and delivered a speech, and in the middle of that speech he disappeared.
