Over the course of the summer Willow, Oz, and Xander have attempted to cover Buffy's Slayer responsibilities, with mixed results. Willow prepares to say goodbye to Oz, who is leaving on a tour of campuses with his band, while Xander reunites with Cordelia after a summer in Mexico, to mixed emotions. Giles and Joyce argue over who is to blame for Buffy leaving. Giles gets word of a young woman fighting vampires in Oakland, the latest in a series of reports from across the country, and rushes off to find her.
