The Eighth Crusade, which Louis IX of France led in 1270 against the Hafsid dynasty in Tunisia, was the second Crusade. It is sometimes referred to as the Second Crusade of Louis or the Crusade of Louis IX Against Tunis. King Louis passed away from sickness soon after arriving on the coasts of Tunisia, therefore there was little substantial fighting throughout the Crusade. The Crusaders and the Hafsids negotiated the Treaty of Tunis. Although the Christians received some commercial and political rights, the land did not change. Soon after, the Crusaders retreated back to Europe.
