In 1934 Hitler took the title of Furher, He rose to power as the leader of the Nazi Party. When President Paul von Hindenburg passed away in August 1934, Hitler had already taken power. Hitler combined the offices of Chancellor and President to become Germany's Führer. Although there are many misconceptions about how Hitler came to power it is important to understand that he, in fact, did not seize power in a coup and he was not directly elected to power. Because of the political and economical problems, Hitler gained followers because of his promise to improve the German government. The early 1900's were a time of social, economic, and political unrest. The unrest was a direct result of world war l. As a result of Germany losing the world war, the German empire collapsed. There were many political movements that tried overthrowing the new government.
