The Boston Asian Gay Men and Lesbians (BAGMAL) was formed in 1979 by two gay Asian men and two Asian lesbians, and was later renamed Alliance of Massachusetts Lesbians and Gay Men (AMALGM) in 1988, regularly publishing newsletters which sought to confront racism within the queer movement and develop a sense of empowerment among queer Asians.

Today known as the Queer Asian Pacific-Islander Alliance (QAPA), it is both the oldest queer and trans Asian community organization and the first Asian gay group in the United States.
