In 2009, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak, established a wealth fund called 1Malaysia Development Berhad -or 1MDB- to help its economy. By the year 2015, 1MDB owed foreign countries approximately $11 billion dollars. Some investigations took place, and it was revealed that $681 million were deposited into Najib’s personal account. He claimed that it was a gift. A year later, the investigation uncovered that the amount of money routed into his account exceeded $681 million. It was roughly $1 billion.
