Just a hundred or so years later, Queen Ranavalona I of Madagascar was put in power. She was a… strong, queen, but her methods were a bit extreme. Just a bit. Under her reign, tens of thousands of her people were killed. She imposed forced labor, resulting in the deaths of at least ten thousand. She grew paranoid, and tortured and executed thousands of inhabitants with her infamous Trial of Tangena. On top of that, she persecuted thousands of Christians, and executed fourteen by hanging them over a cliff and cutting the rope. But hey, she did manage to fight off European invasions and avoid all assassination attempts. She died in her bed, at the age of eighty-three.
