12 mar 1947 ano - Truman Doctrine address to Congress
Descrição:
Became the defining doctrine of US Foreign Policy until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1989.
The Truman Doctrine was a response to the concentration of global power into two heavily armed superpowers, the United States and its allies, and the Soviet Union and its allies.
The roots of the Truman Doctrine was fear, fear that if Soviets invaded Europe, which was in shambles after the war, that their power would spread and pose an existential threat to the US.
In response, the Truman doctrine sought to contain this spread through a policy referred to as Containment.
