June 6, 1944, the invasion of France began. Allied planes dropped tinfoil on German bases to disrupt their radar signals, leaving them in confusion as to were the initial attack would be. On the morning of June 6, 156,000 American, British and Canadian soldiers landed in territory occupied by the Germans, across five beaches in Normandy. The next five days consisted of intense fighting, while the Allied troops were able to begin the advance across northern France.
