The Assassination of Franz Ferdinand is widely regard as the event that sparked what would eventually be World War One. On June 28th, 1914 Franz Ferdinand was shot and killed in Sarajevo, by a Serbian nationalist who wanted freedom for his country. Franz Ferdinand was the next heir to the Austria-Hungarian throne. With his death, he left his uncle Franz Joseph I in charge at the ripe age of 84. Ultimately, the Austria-Hungarians blamed the Serbs and decided to go to war with them. Unfortunately for the Austria-Hungarians, Serbia was an ally with Russia who was in the Triple Alliance. This simple shooting caused a chain reaction that lead to an outbreak of European War.
