The land of Texas gained it independence from Mexico. But later on the unexpected happened and Mexico had declared war on the US and although the US was clearly stronger both sides went to battle. This battle was extremely unexpected because the US and Mexico were known to be very close at the time and nevertheless this battle made them closer. In fact after the war had ended and America had very clearly won they were able to come to an agreement. This agreement would be called the treaty of Guadeloupe and it gave the US ore land on top of the land it had previously received that would be Texas. Now the US had 10 more states on its side and became a pretty good trading partner with Mexico. Some of the states they US received from the treaty of Guadeloupe were California, Colorado, and New Mexico and seven more states but not the full States just parts of them.
