The US had a lot of money to spend in the early 1800s so they came together and decided to make a purchase. They decided that this purchase would be to get land from another country that owned some land in the US country. So they went off to trade with other countries but they were not able to get much land since they had already owned much of the US they just wanted to own all of the US country which is why this purchase is part of what made the US how it is today. This purchase was also important because it opened up trading between the US and Mexico and at the time they two countries were becoming closer and closer. The land that they purchased did not come from anyone country but when they got the land and made it part of the Us the land formed the Southern parts of what is now known as Arizona and New Mexico. This perchase went on to be known as the Gadsden Purchase of 1853.
