This was my first teaching job in the United States. SPCS is an inner city school where nearly 100% of the students are minorities yet I was one of the only teachers of color in the building. At the same time, nearly 90% of the students qualify for free and reduced lunch. This made for a group of students who don't have much of a chance at success.
