4 jul 1776 ano - America Adopted the Declaration of Independence
Descrição:
July 4th, 1776, The Declaration of Independence provided the original structure for the newly established democracy of the United States after declaring independence from Great Britain. It stated three basic ideas, God made all men equal and all have equal rights, the government's main duty is to protect those equal rights, and if the government withholds those rights, the people are allowed to revolt and set up a new government (Declaration of Independence Britannica). The promise by the government to serve the people and protect their human rights and equality was immediately made invalid in 1776. At least a quarter of America's population was enslaved at the time, and not even all the white men were allowed to vote let alone women being allowed to vote (Murphy). The idea that American democracy started in 1776 with The Declaration of Independence is not true. If you look at the government and the state of America at the time, there were no equal rights and only a handful of people got to contribute to governmental decisions. The United States at the time couldn’t have been farther from a democracy, and their government replicated an oligarchy rather than a democracy. It was an oligarchy because of the centralized government and decisions made by the handful of people with significant power in the government.
