The Republican Constitution proclaimed the single school, free and compulsory primary education, academic freedom and the secular nature of education.
It also established that teachers, professors and lecturers in official education would be civil servants and that it shall be enacted in order to facilitate access to all levels of education for economically needy Spaniards.
