In 1762, Cornwallis took his fathers spot to become the second Earl of Cornwallis, and took his fathers seat in the House of Lords in Parliament. Cornwallis actually voted against the Stamp Act, as well as other British policies. He then later volunteered to lead British troops in the Revolutionary War.
