John Hancock raised money by using his wealth and influence to get other people to help the colonists in the revolutionary war. When his uncle died he inherited a lot of money and became the richest man in New England and with this wealth he funded and got other people to fund the colonial side of the war. This was buying food, equipment and other supplies for the colonist soldiers.
