7 out 1275 ano - Attempted Peace Between King of Scotland and King of Mann and The Isles

Descrição:

In 1266, Alexander III of Scotland gained Mann and the Hebrides from the King of Norway after centuries of conflict. Nine years later, Guðrøðr Magnússon, King of Mann and the Isles rebelled against Scotland, leading to over 500 deaths in an unsuccessful attempt to gain back ownership of the isles.

The Chronicle of Lanercost describes, "In this year, on the seventh day of the month of October, the King of Scotland's fleet steered into the port of Ronaldsway. Straightway Lord John de Vesci and the king's chief men with their forces, landed on Saint Michael's Isle, 1 the Manxmen being arrayed for war under Godred the son of Magnus, whom shortly before they had made their king. But
the nobles and chieftains of the King of Scotland sent to treat for peace with Godred and the people of Man, offering them the peace of God and of the King of Scotland, provided they would desist from their most foolish presumption and submit in future to the king and his chief men. But as Godred and certain of his perverse counsellors would not agree to the treaty of peace, on the following day before sunrise, when the shades were still upon the land and the minds of foolish men were darkened, a conflict took place and the wretched Manxmen, turning their backs, were terribly routed."
(The Chronicle of Lanercost, 1272-1346 : Translated, with notes by Sir Herbert Maxwell)

What does this mean for peace?
This is a description of the King of Scotland unsuccessfully negotiating with a ruler in Britain who is not the King of England. It is an insight into the way the Scots approached conflict in this era, by first offering peace in the form of submitting to Scotland. Only one day of negotiation was needed though before they are ready to attack.
