This was the bombing of the naval base, Pearl Harbor, in Honolulu. This was a surprise air strike by the Japanese air forces. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor as the United States were supporting the Allies, especially Great Britain. The U.S., determined to retaliate then unleashed the first atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
