8 jan 1866 ano - Black Codes

Descrição:

Black Codes were Southern state legislatures adopted to prevent the rights and movements of the newly freed African Americans. It instituted policies such as the contract-labor system, in which blacks worked the cotton fields under white supervision for deferred wages, similar to slavery. It was significant because it brought back the issues which caused the Civil War and had significant impacts in all areas, for instance, the South refused to seat Alexander Stephens and other duly elected representatives and senators from ex-Confederate states. Black Codes relates to the Election of 1860 because both events caused division in the U.S., mainly regarding the issue of slavery. It also influenced future acts such as the Civil Rights Act of 1875, being that the government recognized realized actions had to be taken to prevent further discrimination.
