In February of 1945, American troops landed on the shores of Iwo Jima. Japanese Soldiers had dug tunnels all around the island to hide but these tunnels didn't help because in the end Americans captured the island . This is important because the hardships the Japanese went through as well as how hard our army was willing to work to defeat Japan.
