In September of 1944, Allied powers decide to invade Southern Europe, mainly Italy. After advances in parts of Italy , there is an initial surrender and the Italian government joins the allies. Then German troops enter Southern Italy to stop the movement south of American forces. This is important because the allies have defeated Rome just a mere 2 days before opening the western front.
