The main purpose of the act was to amend and codify the law relating to marriage among Hindus and others.[1] Besides amending and codifying Sastrik Law, it also included separation and divorce, which also exist in Sastrik Law. This enactment brought uniformity of law for all sections of Hindus. In India there are religion-specific civil codes that separately govern adherents of certain other religion
Ammendaments:
The bridegroom has completed the age of twenty-one years and the bride the age of twenty-one years at the time of the marriage;
It extends to the whole of India, except the State of Jammu and Kashmir, applies also to Hindus domiciled in territories to which the Act extends and those who are outside the said territories
