During the Thompson's Plantation seige, General Sumter learned a British convoy of twenty supply wagons were to establish Fort Motte. The convoy was ambushed at a rise known as Big Savannah a few miles from Thompson's Plantation. The entire British force was either killed, wounded, or taken prisoner along with all supplies.
