Patriot James Knox was murdered by "Bloody Bill" Cunningham during his Bloody Scout. The reason for his murder is unknown other than Knox was member of Col Benjamin Roebuck's militia battalion whom it seemed Cunningham disliked. It is believed Knox was murdered close to modern Union County near the Broad River
