The Reverend John Simpson was the pastor and suported the Patriot cause. While Rev Simpson was away with most of his congreation serving in the militia, Capt Huck's on orders from LtCol Banaster Tarelton burned both the church and Rev Simpson home living his wife and childern homeless. Approximately one month later Capt Hucks was defeated and killed at the Battle of Williamson's Plantation.
