It had been 20 years since Canadians had won a medal in the pool. This was a breakthrough year. the Canadians won 6 medals in the pool. Penny Oleksiak won four of them. Oleksiak became Canadas youngest Olympic champion ever and the first Canadian to win four medals at a single summer games.
