To deal with the problem that the Eastern Churches had fallen out of step with the Orthodox Chalcedonians, Leo IV called an the sixth Ecumenical Council, or the Third Council of Constantinople in 745.
Bishops from across the Empire, and those from the Franks and Goths were called to Constantinople to discuss the hierarchy of the Church and settle matters of doctrine. The specific points aren’t particularly relevant, but the key takeaway from the Council was that ensure the Pentarchy, clearly claim all the five Patriarch preeminent over all the church in their Patriarchate but equal to each other, it also redivided the Patriarchate, divided the Patriarchate of Rome and Patriarchate of Constantinople along the old lines of Imperial division, while the Patriarchate of Alexandria now have all of Africa as Patriarchate.
