General Charles Cornwallis surrendered 8000 British soldiers to French and American forces at Yorktown, Virginia, bringing the American Revolution to an end. The Patriots victory at Yorktown effectively ended war in the American colonies. This was one of the leading reasons to the Treaty of Paris.
