Franz Ferdinand, nephew of Emperor Franz Josef and heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, wa shot dead by a serbian nationalist in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Franz and his wife were fatally shot when going to visit a wounded officer. The assassination had the empire wanting Serbian blood. Due to alliances WW1 soon broke out.
