Overwhelmed by these feelings for Anna, he sends her a Valentine’s Day card. On the day, he sees her opening several. She chucks his in the bin. He also sees Damien open one which he knows is from Anna because he knows her handwriting. Damien throws it into the bin and tells his friends that he thinks Anna’s desperate. Sam says nothing, too upset and too cowardly to stand up to Damien Ashcroft who calls him ‘fatty’ and makes him feel even worse about himself.
