11 mar 1836 ano - Rumors About the Alamo

Descrição:

On this day, a rumor about what happened at the Alamo was passed on to Colonel J.W. Fannin. According to this rumor, the Alamo was attacked on the morning of the previous Sunday. It was ambushed by about 2,300 men, and the colonel who was in charge had only 150 men with him at the time. Seven of these men surrendered and requested to talk to the general of the Mexican army, but they were murdered before they could do so. The other colonel that was there, Colonel Bowie, was said to be sick in bed when all this was going on. He was murdered, as well, and the bodies of the fallen Americans were laid together and set on fire. A lieutenant by the name of Dickenson was at the battle with his wife and child, and fighting corageously in the war, he attempted to escape by tying his child to his back and jumping off a two-story building. Unfortunately, neither him or his child survived the fall.
