The partners first created a water frame that would spin 4 strands of cotton simultaneously. Eventually it old spin 96 strands at once. Factories began, and unskilled workers could get a source of income. The water frame was powered by hydropower and it was both quick and easy to use. However, water pollution occurred with the wastes from the factories being dumped in the water.
