The Smoot-Hawley Tariff raised import duties to protect American industries. It would worsen the conditions of the Great Depression because it made it harder for American farms and businesses to sell abroad.

Do note that the Great Depression was not a U.S. only recession but rather a recession that affected every nation worldwide.
